Orkney gigs for Ayrshire musician
Ayrshire singer/songwriter and guitarist, Alan Frew, will perform two gigs in Orkney this weekend.
He will be performing first in the Standing Stones Hotel tonight, Friday, and again tomorrow night in the Albert Hotel in Kirkwall.
Alan has over 150 shows this year in Scotland and Europe, performing songs from a brand new album, which is set for release next year. He has been described in the press as “one of Scotland’s best pickers and poets.”
He grew up listening to grassroots traditional and contemporary folk music, listening to and adopting many genres from Celtic to Latin and Americana into his own tangible style.
Citing his father, Ian Frew along with John Martyn and Joao Gilberto as influences, Alan produced his debut album, Go Easy, in 2010 to wide acclaim, and has gone on to open for Martin Carthy, Andy M Stewart, Albert Lee and Paolo Nutini.
In 2013, he was asked to play and sing with the Rafferty Family as part of the Gerry Rafferty tribute at Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall. The show included performances  by The Proclaimers, Jack Bruce and Ron Sexmith and sold out on the first day. After the show Alan played a show at the Royal Hotel in Stromness with Mark Rafferty.
He looks forward to his return at the weekend. For further information, visit www.alanjfrew.com
