Orkney Gin Company scoops awards

Andrea and Gary Watt, who own the Orkney Gin Company, are thrilled to have picked up a Gold Medal award for their Mikkelmas gin and a Silver for their Johnsmas, at the 2017 Spirits Business Gin Masters.

The Orkney Gin Company — one of Orkney’s three local gin makers — has seen success at this year’s Spirits Business Global Gin Masters awards.

Gary and Andrea Watt, who run the Burray-based company, are pleased to have received a Silver Medal award and Gold Medal award for their Mikkelmas and Johnsmas gins, respectively.

This was achieved after a long process of blind-tasting by professional, independent judges. In order to achieve a Gold Medal, an entry must be awarded over 90 per cent by everyone on the judging panel, made up of industry experts.

Gary is pleased to have seen Johnsmas achieve this feat.

“Recognition at this level of competition is amazing, and we are absolutely delighted to achieve these results as a small, family-run business against so many much larger, well established companies,” he said.

“We couldn’t have done it without the incredible support we get from the people and businesses of Orkney, and we take great pride in being able to represent Orkney on a global stage.”
