Orkney MSP To Raise Air Ambulance Concerns with SAS
Orkney MSP Liam McArthur will use a meeting in Kirkwall today to highlight ongoing concerns about the lack of a locally based air ambulance to service the needs of patients in the islands.
Mr McArthur is due to meet SAS’s Air Ambulance General Manager, Garry Fraser, to discuss arrangements for the new contract, announced earlier in the summer.
Commenting ahead of the meeting, Mr McArthur: “I have been arguing for improvements to be made to the air ambulance service since I was first elected as Orkney’s MSP in 2007. Since then, I have consistently made the case for an aircraft to be based in Orkney to improve response times and reliability for patients in the islands.”
