Orkney Rugby Football Club are through to the final of the BT Caledonia Shield and maintain their spot at the top of the league after overcoming Hillfoots in today’s ‘double header’.

Condition were not ideal with heavy rain at times and strong winds making both handling and kicking tough.

Orkney were almost always in control  but were made to work hard against a stubborn Hillfoots side.

Al Watson opened the scoring with an unconverted try — his 199th since records began— before Alan Brown went over in the corner to extend Orkney’s lead.

Hillfoots, with the wind behind their backs scored a penalty from range to make it 10-3 at half-time.

Within ten minutes of the restart Orkney had added a further two tries courtesy of Brown and Denis Hayes, with one of these being converted by James Linklater

That was to be the end of the scoring for the day however, but it was enough to give Orkney a coveted bonus point win, in what was their final scheduled home game of 2014.
