Orkney to be represented at Scotland’s Specialty Food Show

Five Orkney food producers will be showcasing their wares at Scotland’s Specialty Food Show, starting this Sunday.

Five Orkney Food and Drink members will representing the county at Scotland’s Speciality Food Show at the SEC, Glasgow, this weekend.

The local contingent includes regular attendees Jollys of Orkney, Orkney Bakery, Orkney Creamery and Orkney Distilling. Joining them for the first time this year will also be Orkney Craft Vinegar.

The show, which runs from Sunday, January 21 to Tuesday, January 23, sees 130 companies exhibiting their products, from cheese, cooked meats and chutneys; to baked goods, beers and spirits. Thousands of buyers from shops, restaurants and hotels across the country are expected to attend over the weekend.

“Trips to these kinds of events are vitally important to the producers and the promotion of Orkney’s food and drink as a whole,” explained Orkney Food and Drink project manager, Edgar Balfour.

“It gives the individual businesses a platform to present their products to potential buyers, and showcases the range of quality food and drink we have on offer in the islands. We’re all looking forward to another busy and successful weekend.”

The five companies will exhibit their products on specially designed Orkney stands, with their presence supported by Orkney Islands Council and Highlands and Islands Enterprise through the Orkney Marketing programme.

They’ll be joined in Glasgow by eight Orkney Crafts Association members at Scotland’s Trade Fair, which is run at the same time as the Food Show.

This includes local jewellery designers Aurora Jewellery, Celina Rupp Jewellery, Ortak, Sheila Fleet Jewellery and Zoe Davidson Jewellery. They’ll be joined by knitwear and textile designers Hume Sweet Hume and Kirsteen Stewart, as well as ceramics artist Elaine Henderson.
