Orkney’s rugby players suffered a disappointing defeat away to Ayrshire side Irvine this afternoon as they went down 31-20.

Hopes will have been high of picking up a victory against a side sitting second bottom at the start of the day and Orkney started well in Ayrshire.

However it wasn’t to be for the islanders despite tries from captain Alan Brown and two from Scott Rendall. A bad day at the office was made even worse for Orkney as they finished the match with 14 men as Scott Rendall was shown a red card.

Orkney will have the chance to gain revenge in two weeks time as their next scheduled match is a home encounter against Irvine on Saturday, April 9.
