Orkney RFC lose out in close league encounter
Orkney RFC lost out 20-24 in a hard fought league game against Caithness at Pickaquoy this afternoon.
The home side went in at half time 8-6 in front courtesy of a James Linklater drop goal and Jon Tait try, and extended their lead early in the second half with a fine try from Scott Rendall.
Orkney looked to be in control of the match until two Caithness tries in quick succession midway through the second half put the visitors in front.
Although Orkney were quick to respond with an Erland Drever try, converted by Linklater, a further penalty from the Caithness number 10 took the score to 20-24.
Orkney battled hard for a winning score in the dying minutes and were camped in the visitors’ 22, however the Caithness defence held firm and they held on for the win.
