Orkney rugby season to start with league cup clash

Orkney Rugby Club’s First XV 2017/18 season is set to get under way this Saturday, with a BT National League Cup clash against Dumfries Saints.

Saints are familiar opponents to Orkney, having won the BT National League Division 3 title last term — beating Orkney twice on route to the league crown — and will be favourites to progress in the cup.

Orkney, meanwhile, suffered a friendly defeat against Caithness last weekend, and are preparing for another energy-sapping journey to the Borders.

The match is set to get under way at 2pm.
