Orkney teenagers sailing opportunity

Three Orkney teenagers are to be given the opportunity to experience life under sail onboard an ocean going yacht, as Orkney Islands Council have put out an appeal for young sailors to apply for places in the CoSLA New Horizons Voyage.

Each local authority in Scotland has agreed to pay to fund three young people from their area to participate in the event. This funding includes all costs incurred while taking part in the project (except travel to and from the vessel), with trips scheduled to be held at various times in September, departing from, and returning to Greenock.

Applicants should be aged 16-19 on the date of departure. They will be required to work hard – participating fully in sailing the vessel and taking their turn in cooking and other domestic chores.

If you are interested in taking part please contact OIC Business Development Manager Michael Morrison, or OIC Community Learning Officer Ernie Skea.
