Orkney win third Scottish District Cup

Orkney celebrate after winning the Scottish District Cup this afternoon.

Goals from Lauren Gilmour, Claire Irvine and Hannah Cromarty earned Orkney a third Scottish District Cup triumph this afternoon, beating Shetland 3-0.

Played at the National Hockey Centre in Glasgow, it was a tense opening period between the two sides, before Gilmour — played in by the excellent Inga Kemp — opened the scoring.

Claire Irvine put Orkney in firm control of the tie midway through the second half, before the returning Hannah Cromarty sealed the win.

The victory means Orkney add to their 2010 and 2013 successes in the competition, while for Shetland, having not won against their rivals since 2003, their wait for a win against Orkney is ongoing.
