The Outrun shortlisted for Ondaatje prize

Orkney author Amy Liptrot’s book The Outrun has been nominated for this year’s Royal Society of Literature (RSL) Ondaatje prize.

The prize is given annually to a book of highest literary merit — fiction, non-fiction or poetry — which evokes a place, with a £10,000 going to the winner.

There are five other books from UK authors on the shortlist. The winner will be announced on May 8.

First published in January last year, The Outrun is the story of the author’s recovery from alcoholism and a powerful statement about the restorative power of the natural world in Orkney.
