Parliamentarians call for Loganair improvements

Northern Isles MSPs Liam McArthur and Tavish Scott, and Northern Isles MP Alistair Carmichael have called on Loganair to make sure passengers are kept in the loop on the operation of lifeline air links.

The three representatives met Loganair senior officials, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and the Shetland Islands Council today in Lerwick to discuss reliability issues with the air links to the Northern Isles.

In a joint statement after the meeting, Orkney MSP Liam McArthur and Northern Isles MP Alistair Carmichael said: “The Northern Isles depend on Loganair for safe and reliable air services to Aberdeen and further afield. Too many flights have been late or cancelled. That means real disruption for passengers.

“Today, Loganair recognised they must do better and invest in engineering that gets planes back flying as soon as possible.

“The CAA confirmed that Loganair operate a safe airline and they are helping with the reliability problems that all passengers have experienced. As part of making the service better, Loganair have to improve their communication to passengers especially when there are significant delays. If we are told what is going on and how problems are being fixed then delays are easier to live with.”
