Architects’ drawings of the new St Peter’s House will be on display in Kirkwall and Stromness today, Thursday.

The plans by Glasgow-based Young and Gault Architects, who were appointed by Orkney Islands Council to lead the design project, are available at the OIC’s customer services, in School Place, Kirkwall, and at the Stromness Warehouse Buildings during opening hours.

Stuart Dallas, director of Young and Gault Architects, said: “Young and Gault Architects are delighted to have been chosen by Orkney Islands Council as architects for this new 40-bed care facility in Stromness.

“The home has been designed to take full advantage of this prominent site with panoramic views looking towards Stromness and Hoy, and to appear as a cluster of houses. We’ve strived to design quality internal and external spaces that reflect the special character of the islands.”

The new St Peter’s House will replace the current 32-bed facility and plans will be on show for two weeks. They can also be viewed at www.orkney.gov.uk.

A competitive tendering exercise for the construction of the new facility is due to take place early next year, with the work expected to begin during the summer of 2017.

The care home is planned to open early in 2019. The total project cost is around £9 million.
