Police advise extra care on the roads

Police in Orkney are urging motorists in the county to be careful and stay safe over festive season.

With today seeing surface water on the roads and dropping temperatures, extra care is being advised.

Police in Scotland are also reminding motorists to keep essential items in their vehicle, such as de-icer, an ice scraper, a shovel, a torch and extra warm clothing.

It is also advised that drivers prepare for bad weather by checking the oil levels in their vehicle, that all electronics work properly, that they have extra fuel, and that their wiper blades are in good order.
