Positive result following festive drink drive campaign in Orkney
Over 60 roadside breath tests were carried out in Orkney during the winter festive drink drive campaign, with no one found to be over the legal limit for alcohol.
While welcoming the positive result, Kirkwall Inspector Gordon Deans stressed that officers will continue to address road safety in the county as a “priority”, to ensure that Orkney’s roads remain among the safest in the country.
In addition, during the campaign, over 250 vehicles were stopped and checked, and drivers were given winter road safety advice, and issued with a winter pack, including ice-scrapers, a small torch and safety check list for the winter weather.
Inspector Deans said: “In addition, despite the extreme weather conditions no injury accidents were reported. It is hoped that these encouraging figures will continue throughout the year which are a good indicator of the benefits of high-visibility policing.”
