Postal vote reminder from OIC

With council elections taking place next week, Orkney Islands Council’s (OIC) elections team is reminding those with a postal vote that they must return them by 10pm on polling day — Thursday, May 4.

Voters should also take time to ensure that they have completed the postal voting statement correctly, making sure that they have signed the statement and filled in the box for their date of birth.

Postal votes can be returned to the council by post or handed in to any polling station on polling day. Postal voters can also hand their completed pack into the council’s One Stop Shop in Kirkwall, posting it through the letterbox if it is after 5pm.

Around 25 per cent of voters in Orkney have a postal vote for this election – a total of 3629.

Polling stations will open between 7.00am and 10.00pm on polling day  and the votes will be counted electronically in Kirkwall on Friday, May 5, with the declaration of results expected before lunchtime.
