Projects to receive OIC funding
The renovation of the Kitchener Memorial in Birsay and a project to establish a craft and heritage centre in Papa Westray have both recieved financial backing from Orkney Islands Council.
At a meeting of the Community Development Fund sub-committee this afternoon, councillors approved an application from the Orkney Heritage Society for £50,000 towards the estimated £201,700 cost of renovating the Kitchener and HMS Hampshire Memorial, and to build a commemorative wall.
The sub-committee also recommended a grant of £88,376 towards the required £178,552 for the second phase of a project to turn the former Kelp Store at Nouster Pier in Papay into a heritage and craft centre. The application came from the Papay Development Trust.
