Public views sought on universal membership for sports and leisure facilities
Orkney Islands Council is seeking views on the possibility of a membership card that would give access to all of Orkney’s sport and leisure facilities.
A short survey is available to find out what facilities people currently use, the number of residents that have memberships and how much they feel is a reasonable amount to spend monthly on a universal leisure card.
This would be the first joint membership card between council facilities and the Pickaquoy Centre.
According to the OIC, the proposed membership costs are £26 per month for an individual, or £35 per month for a family and would allow unlimited access to the Pickaquoy Centre and all council sport and leisure facilities on the Mainland and the isles.
Garry Burton, OIC sport and leisure service manager, said: “We are hoping to get as many surveys completed as possible to help us determine whether a universal leisure card is a realistic option for Orkney.
“Given that the proposed universal card would allow access to all OIC and Picky facilities, it would be a great opportunity for individuals and families to make the most of all of Orkney’s facilities as often as they want at a relatively low cost.”
You can complete the survey online at www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/XD8CN38 or pick up a paper copy at any sport and leisure facility throughout Orkney, including the Pickaquoy Centre.
The deadline for the survey is April 1.
