Queen’s Baton Relay – get inspired and nominate your community champion
Stories to inspire nominations for the Queen’s Baton Relay can be heard from today on the Orkney Islands Council website.
The council is encouraging people to nominate the “local heroes” who will carry the Queen’s Baton on its journey across the county shortly before the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
With the deadline being November 22 there is still time to put forward nominations for baton bearers.
To help people think about the community champions they would like to nominate for the Orkney leg of the Baton Relay, the council asked a selection of “weel kent” faces to talk about their own local heroes.
The Queen’s Baton Relay will arrive in Orkney on July 10, 2014. It is proposed that the Baton Relay will visit a number of communities before leaving Orkney the following day. Full details of the Baton’s journey through Orkney will be announced later.
