Queen’s Nurse title for MS and MND advisor
An Orkney nurse has been awarded the prestigious title of Queen’s Nurse.
Moira Flett, a specialist Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and Motor Neurone Disease (MND) advisor, was nominated for providing high quality, compassionate care to people in her community.
She completed a nine-month development programme run by the Queen’s Nursing Institute Scotland (QNIS), and was awarded the historic title at a ceremony in Edinburgh on Thursday.
Moira, from Finstown, said: “I feel it’s very important to have that local person who is available to support and guide those affected by MS and MND through those early weeks and months after diagnosis, and afterwards.
“The Queen’s Nurse programme has reaffirmed nursing for me. I’ve always been passionate about person-centered care but knowing there are others out there who share the same passion for their role has been energising.”
