Rowers reach Faroe Islands
After four days at sea, the team of four Icelandic rowers who left Kirkwall Marina on Saturday morning reached the Faroe Islands last night.
The boat actually left Norway in mid-June, arriving in Kirkwall seven days later, after an arduous crossing in high winds and rough seas.
The crew then had to wait for a month before a weather window allowed them to make the next leg of the voyage to Faroe.
The voyage to the village of Porkeri in Faroe, a trip of almost 200 miles, was not without drama.
The crew had to cope with a broken rudder, however made a makeshift replacement out of the keel of their boat.
On arrival in Faroe, the crew said that they received a wonderful welcome.
