Royal Oak remembered 75 years on
Today, Tuesday, marks the 75th anniversary of the sinking of HMS Royal Oak in Scapa Flow.
This morning, senior Royal Navy officers, members of HMS Bangor’s ship’s company and personnel from Northern Diving Group, alongside guests and veterans, will attend a special commemoration service at the Royal Oak Garden of Remembrance at Scapa, conducted by the Reverend David Dawson.
There will then be wreaths laid over the site of the wreck, led this year by Rear Admiral John Clink of the Royal Navy.
The Royal Oak was sunk by a German u-boat on October 14, 1939, with the loss of 834 lives, including many boy sailors.
