The Royal Oak remembered 77 years on
Tomorrow, Friday, will see commemoration events marking the 77th anniversary of the sinking of HMS Royal Oak in Scapa Flow.
There will be a service at the Garden of Remembrance at Scapa, before the laying of wreaths over the site of the ship’s final resting place beneath the cliffs at Gaitnip.
The Royal Oak was torpedoed by a German submarine in the early hours of October 14, 1939, with the loss of 834 lives.
