Sanday shellfish update
Orkney Islands Council’s environmental health team has lifted a ban on shellfish harvesting at the Backiskaill Bay area of Sanday.
Notices to avoid consuming shellfish collected from the area were issued in mid June, when monitoring work carried out by OIC identified raised levels of naturally occurring algal toxins in shellfish at the location.
The council has undertaken further testing, and results now show levels have subsided, and will continue to routinely monitor the area.
