Scottish Youth Parliament Election Result
Orkney’s two new elected members of the Scottish Youth Parliament are 16-year-old Samuel Murray, from Deerness, and 15-year-old Iona Torbet, from Kirkwall.
After a brief introduction by OIC convener Steven Heddle, the announcement was made just after 4.30pm today, Friday, by OIC chief executive Alistair Buchan to a packed council chamber.
The winning candidates said they were “thrilled” and “excited” to have been elected and look forward to the work ahead as members of the Scottish Youth Parliament.
Councillor Heddle also commented that members of the Orkney Islands Council looked forward to working with the both Sam and Iona in the future.
