Second offshore accommodation vessel arrives in Scapa Flow
The second offshore accommodation vessel due to spend time in Orkney waters this winter arrived in Scapa Flow this morning, Thursday.
The Safe Boreas, which manned by around 50 crew, is owned by Prosafe which also operates the Regalia, the semi-submersible accommodation vessel already at anchor in the Flow.
The Safe Boreas, which can actually accommodate up to 450 people in single cabins, will be anchored around a mile from the Regalia, which is also undergoing maintenance work.
Prosafe is the world’s leading owner and operator of accommodation vessels. The company owns/operates twelve semi-submersibles and has three new builds under construction.
Accommodation vessels are used wherever there is a need for additional accommodation, engineering, construction or storage capacity offshore.
Michael Morrison, Business Development Manager with Orkney Islands Council, said this morning: “The safe arrival of the Safe Boreas in Scapa Flow on its temporary anchorage is testament to the local marine and supply chain which have served its sister vessel Regalia since it arrived in Scapa Flow on November 27.
“We understand that the majority of the works to be carried out on the Safe Boreas for the installation of additional accommodation modules almost exclusively will be carried out in Orkney using the local supply chain.”
