Sichel to begin 3,100-mile race
Orkney’s ultra-marathon man William Sichel will today begin the biggest challenge of his career to date.
He is attempting to become the first Scot, first Brit, and first person over 60 years of age, to complete the world’s longest certified footrace — the Sri Chinmoy Self Transcendence 3,100 Mile Race — within the 52-day time limit.
The gruelling race starts today and runs until August 6, and is expected to host a small field of about a dozen runners.
Described as the ‘Mount Everest of ultra-marathons’, the 18th edition of this event will, once again, take place on a half-mile street circuit in Queens, New York.
William is raising funds for CLAN Cancer Support, and his dedicated webpage can be found at www.justgiving.com/William-Sichel
