Skara Brae is one of Scotland’s ten most popular ticketed heritage attractions this summer, according to Historic Environment Scotland.

Sandwick’s 5,000-year-old Neolithic settlement welcomed 56,386 paid visitors between April and July 2016 – a rise of eight per cent rise compared to 2015.

Stephen Duncan, Historic Environment Scotland’s director of commercial and tourism, was pleased to have seen an increase in popularity for Scotland’s paid heritage attractions across the board.

Historic Environment Scotland figures show that attractions across the country have welcomed more than 1.9 million visitors between April and July this year — an increase of more than 169,000 on the same period in 2015.

Mr Duncan said: “These figures demonstrate the real value and significance of heritage attractions and their important place within Scotland’s tourism offering.”
