The six-year-old Irish-bred Clydesdale mare, Snowflake, gained the accolade of becoming the top horse at the County Show for a second time.

The 2014 Champion, that also lifted the top award at this year’s East Mainland Show, beat off tough opposition in the horse arena at Bignold Park today (Saturday) to attain an amazing County Show double for owner Ian Smith of Holburn, Holm Branch Road, Holm.

Sired by Carnaff Ambassador out of the mare Garleton Betty, Snowflake – a champion at the Forfar Show two years ago in her only foray to a show out with Orkney – reached the final section of the Horse judging  at this year’s County Show by winning the Champion in the Pure-Bred Heavy Horse section.

A clearly delighted Ian Smith said, after returning Snowflake to her paddock: “I’m thrilled. She has been so good to us. She is not overly big, in fact she is just the right size for a Clydesdale, and is looking really good right now. It is something special to win Champion of the Horse section at the County Show but to win it twice is amazing.”

The 2016 County Show Reserve Champion was the Champion of the Light-legged Ridden section, a nine-year-old Irish-bred Connemara – Edenwood Dark Secret, known as Freddy — ridden and owned by Kristin Hourie of Flotterston House, Sandwick.
