Special meeting to appoint new monitoring and audit chairman

A special general meeting of Orkney Islands Council is being held on Tuesday to appoint a new chairman of the monitoring and audit committee, following the resignation of Councillor Russ Madge.

He stood down after questioning the convener, Councillor Stephen Hagan’s allowance claims for staying at his Mainland second home.

Fellow councillors were understood to be unhappy at the move and Councillor Madge handed in his notice shortly afterwards.
