Stromness charity cyclist due to arrive “home”

An Orkney Royal Navy officer is due to arrive in Stromness tonight, following a marathon charity cycle trek from Falmouth.

Edwin “Coops” Cooper, a helicopter pilot and a former pupil of Stromness Academy, is undertaking a “home to home” cycling challenge, cycling from his current home in Falmouth to his family home in Stromness.

Lieutenant Cooper, son of Philip and Charlotte Cooper from Stromness, hopes to cover the 1,000-mile distance in seven days with no back-up drivers.

His goal is to raise £2,000 for Help for Heroes — a charity launched in 2007 to provide direct, practical support to those wounded, sick or injured in the line of duty since 9/11.

Edwin is due to arrive in Stromness off the Hamnavoe at 8.20pm tonight and would gladly accept donations from folk on the final few hundred yards of the journey.
