Sun shines for Shapinsay Show 2022

Fraser Leslie of Odinstone secured both the champion and reserve champion title in the sheep section at Shapinsay Show 2022.

What began as a drizzly day for Shapinsay Show ended with the sun bursting through the clouds just as George and Einar Muir secured victory in the cattle section.

The Muirs of Gorn sealed the overall championship this Tuesday with a March-born Limousin-cross heifer calf called Asta. The reserve was won by Fraser Leslie, who also claimed championship and reserve championship of the sheep section.

The Shapinsay sheep champion was a charolais-cross tup from Odinstone.

A Miniature Shetland, Glenfall Rosethorn, owned by J. & J. Booth of Ostoft, Shapinsay, was awarded the overall horse championship.

A retiring champion took home the top goat prize at Shapinsay. At five years old, Annie the nanny goat has birthed many prize winners in the past, but today she was reigning champion. Her owner Valerie More couldn’t be prouder, as the prize Saanen is due to retire.

Claiming the title of top dog at the show was an 11-year-old Border Collie called Willow — a veteran of the show ring south, who has previously competed at Crufts. Owner Janice Follwell of Haquoy was delighted with this veteran of the show ring during her first Orkney performance.
