The Orcadian shortlisted for Newspaper of the Year

The Orcadian is once again in the running for Newspaper of the Year at the Highlands and Islands Media Awards.

The third consecutive year the paper has been nominated for the accolade, also in contention are the Northern Scot from Elgin and the Shetland Times.

There was further delight in The Orcadian offices with the news that reporter Sarah Sutherland was one of three nominees for the Young Journalist of the Year Award.

Orkney-based freelancer Dave Flanagan is also in the running for the Best Use of Digital Media Award.

Over 100 entries in 11 sections, covering newspaper, online and broadcast news stories and features, as well as the top photographs from across the region, was received.

The winners will be announced at the Friday, February 1, at the awards ceremony in Inverness.
