Thinking of standing for council?

Orkney Islands Council is holding an information evening on March 5 for anyone interested in standing for the May 3 Local Government Election.

The Prospective Candidate Briefing Session will take place in the council chamber (OIC offices, School Place, Kirkwall) from 5.30pm, with a presentation from 6-7pm.

Chief Executive Albert Tait and Returning Officer for the upcoming Council election said: “There is a lot of information available about standing for election, but it can be overwhelming.

“This session aims to talk prospective candidates through the process of nominating themselves.

“We’ll also explain how all the different bodies – the Council and the Local Electoral Registration Office and the Electoral Commission – work together to manage the election, and what candidates need to do to be able to stand.”
