Time to check your electricity tariff

There’s only days left to take advantage of a scheme to get householders a better deal on energy tariffs.

Environmental charity Changeworks, which launched the initiative last month, is urging more people from Orkney to get involved — with Ofgem research showing 86 per cent of UK householders do not know whether they are on the best energy tariff, and a third unaware they can switch.

The Scots Together scheme has negotiated three of the most competitive gas and electricity tariffs currently on offer on the market. The negotiated tariffs are available to direct debit, prepayment customers and those who pay on receipt of their energy bill.

As part of the deal, and to encourage people to check energy rates more frequently, the new tariffs will only be available until 11:59pm on National Switch Day, Sunday, March 17.

Householders can review their current electricity tariffs by phone, or online at www.ScotsTogether.com, to make sure they are on the best available deal. If a better alternative is offered, visitors can opt to switch tariff and benefit from an estimated average annual saving of £220 per home.
