The late Dr Tony Trickett MBE
The late Dr Tony Trickett MBE
The flag at the council offices in Kirkwall will be flown at half mast this weekend as a mark of respect, following the death of the Lord-Lieutenant of Orkney, Dr Tony Trickett.

Dr Trickett was awarded the MBE in 1998. He was appointed as a Deputy Lieutenant of Orkney the following year and was made Vice Lord-Lieutenant in 2005. He served as Lord-Lieutenant from 2007.

Orkney Islands Council convener, Councillor Steven Heddle, said: “Tony will be remembered for his tireless work on behalf of our community.

“From the early 1970s, Tony served for many years as GP for Hoy, Walls and Longhope and had a long and active connection with the Longhope Lifeboat as honorary medical officer, honorary secretary and operations manager.

“As first a Deputy Lieutenant and later as Lord-Lieutenant, Tony also chanelled his considerable energy into his duties as an ambassador for Orkney. He was a passionate advocate for the island where he made his home and for the wider Orkney community.

“Tony will be sadly missed and on behalf of the council I would like to express our condolences to Tony’s family and his many friends.”
