Trúa take home awards at Orkney Young Enterprise final
The final of the Orkney Young Enterprise competition took place yesterday evening at Orkney College with Kirkwall Grammar School’s Trúa picking up all six awards including the Orkney Enterprise shield.
Both secondary schools on the Orkney mainland were each represented by team of S6 pupils. Trúa from KGS opened a tuck shop before setting up a business selling cushions featuring an original design. Stromness academy were represented by Team SA who set up a business selling christmas cards featuring designs by local Stromness artists and art pupils.
At the Orkney finals event each team were required to create a trade stand, deliver a presentation and report and answer questions from a panel of judges made up of local business people.
Six awards were given in all with the judges for each commenting that it was an extremely close competition but ultimately Trúa took home the awards for best website, best trade stand, best report, best presentation, best director – which went to Matthew Reid from Trúa – and the Orkney Young Enterprise shield.
Managing Director of Trúa Matthew Reid said: “I don’t think any of us were expecting that result at all. Stromness did very well and all the judges said it was very close. I’m absolutely delighted.”
Trúa will now go on to the Scottish finals for Young Enterprise held in Glasgow in June.
