Updated weather advice
Orkney Islands Council is advising that due to high tides and a moderate tidal surge coastal flooding is possible in some coastal areas across Orkney this evening and over the weekend.
The high tides and strong winds may lead to wave overtopping in some exposed areas close to the sea, with communities exposed to the south easterly winds most likely to be affected.
Drivers are advised to take particular care when travelling on exposed coastal roads or crossing the Barriers where spray and overtopping by waves is likely.
Council Staff will be monitoring conditions over the weekend and supplies of sandbags will be available to householders in an emergency at St Mary’s, St Margaret’s Hope and Garson.
