In this week’s edition of The Orcadian

This week’s edition of The Orcadian is now available from all the usual outlets, and here.

This week’s front page features stories on:

• Two crewmen who work on an Orkney trawler have been commended for their bravery by the Royal Humane Society, after they pulled a woman from a sinking car at a north-east harbour in October.

• A Kirkwall man, caught with £3,500 of ecstasy, has been sentenced to four months in prison.

• The start of construction work on Kirkwall’s new Balfour Hospital has been delayed by “important and contractual details”, although it is not yet clear how long for.

This week’s paper also features:

• the line-up for the 35th Orkney Folk Festival is announced.

• Concerns are voiced over the transportation of highly enriched uranium from Wick Airport to the USA.

• The first findings from a highly detailed survey of the shattered remains of HMS Vanguard  — which sank in Scapa Flow 100 years ago —support the conclusion that the ship was lost as a result of a huge internal explosion just behind the battleship’s bridge.

For these stories, plus round-ups of all the week’s top news stories in the county, pick up a copy of The Orcadian today.
