Whalsay beat Stromness to Inter-Island Parish Cup
The Inter-Island Cup will head north to Whalsay this year after the Shetland side beat Stromness 4-2 this afternoon at a wet Stromness Academy pitch.
While the conditions that greeted both sets of players and a decent crowd were challenging to say the least, both sets of players should be commended for what was an entertaining match.
Whalsay raced into a two goal lead with David Murray capitalising from two Stromness errors before the home side reduced the deficit through a Ross Slater strike.
Stewart Shearer restored the away side’s two goal advantage before the break before a Ryan McFerran header on 60 minutes provided hope for the home side.
However their hopes were dashed in a hard fought contest when Magnus Thompson scored from the penalty spot to hand the cup to Whalsay.
