Why not apply for a postal vote

Would you like to vote from the comfort of your own home in the upcoming European elections?

If you happen to be away on business, on holiday or just have other commitments, which mean you can’t get to your local polling station between 7am and 10 pm on May 22, there is no need to miss having your say – postal and proxy votes are easy to arrange and it only takes a few minutes.

Already there are over 3000 voters now registered for a postal vote in Orkney.

Application forms can be downloaded from the Orkney Islands Council website. These must be returned to the Electoral Registration Office in Kirkwall by 5pm on Wednesday, May 7.

The deadline for ordinary proxy applications (where someone votes on your behalf) is 5 pm on Wednesday, May 14.

Postal vote packs, including your ballot paper and accompanying instructions, will then start arriving from Friday, May 2.

The Electoral Registration Office can be contacted on 01856 876222 or by fax on 01856 870 949. It can also be contacted by email on ero@orkney.gov.uk

You can keep up with all the latest news on the European Parliament elections at the council website www.orkney.gov.uk , which includes a list of candidates, as well as the location of polling stations and information on the voting process.
