The puffins have gone and the nights are getting longer, but this is a very exciting time for wildlife, according to the organisers of the Orkney Nature Festival.

A “mini-festival” of events began today, Friday,  and runs until Sunday.

Anne Bignall said: “The weekend offers superb opportunities for you to enjoy wildlife on your doorstep, as well as showcasing our islands as an excellent year-round wildlife destination.

“Tourists come to Orkney for the wildlife, landscapes, people, food and archaeology. All of that is available all year round, and we’re pleased to highlight our amazing late-autumn wildlife.”
