Year of opportunity for food and drink producers
Orkney MSP Liam McArthur is encouraging local producers to take part in an initiativecapitalising on a busy year of major events across the country.
With the Ryder Cup, Commonwealth Games and a series of events celebrating the Year of Homecoming, Scotland Food and Drink are keen to use the opportunity to showcase what Scotland has to offer and build a lasting legacy for the sector beyond 2014.
Mr McArthur said: “Orkney has a fantastic reputation when it comes to food and drink. Thanks to the quality of our natural resources and the skills of the people involved, many Orkney products and businesses already enjoy success internationally, as well as throughout Scotland and the UK.
“However, 2014 presents perhaps a unique opportunity to build on that reputation and success with a series of high profile events due to take place throughout the year, not least the Commonwealth Games and Ryder Cup.”
He added: “Orkney’s food and drink sector is amongst the best anywhere. This year seems an excellent time to spread the word more widely, both home and abroad.”
