Achieving equality and fairness … what’s your view?
Orkney Islands Council is asking the public for help as it develops new objectives for its efforts to promote equality.
All public authorities have a legal requirement to produce, and publish, a set of equality outcomes by April 30, 2013.
“These are the results we aim to achieve in promoting equality, tackling discrimination and fostering good relations,” said Gillian Morrison, executive director for corporate services. “They are not what we do, but the changes resulting from what we do.”
The equality outcomes will cover age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation.
The changes they promote may be for individuals, groups, families, organisations or communities.
“We’re now consulting with the wider public to see if there is anything they would like to say about the outcomes,” Ms Morrison added. “Any comments will be welcomed and considered.”
The consultation began today, Monday, and runs until March 10. The consultation document is available for download from the council website.
