Latest round of LEADER grants

Nearly a third of projects awarded LEADER funding in Orkney over the past four years have been based in the outer isles.

Sixty-eight projects across Orkney have been awarded a total of nearly £1.95million since the fund opened, with 22 of these outwith the Mainland.

The latest isles group to receive LEADER funding is the Sanday Development Trust, who will use their £96,000 award towards creating a heritage centre and enterprise area in the former Temperance Hall in Lady Village.

The Deerness Boat Owners association will also receive a funding boost with just over £53,000 being awarded towards the project to develop and expand the Deerness Geo Slipway and Surrounding Area.

The last group to receive funding in this round are the West Mainland Bowling Club project, who have received over £64k for the creation of a bowling green and public area in Dounby Village.

The next deadline for LEADER funding applications is February 22.  The remaining funds are limited but if you have a project that you’d like to discuss then you should contact Alister Brown. LEADER Development Officer at the Council on 873535
