Ba’ throwers selected

Ba’ season is nearly here once more, and the four people who will get this year’s games under way have been announced.

With Christmas and New Year’s Day landing on a Sunday, tradition dictates that the games are not held until the following day. Ian Linklater, from Reid Crescent, in Kirkwall, will be starting the season off, throwing up the Boy’s ba’ on Boxing Day morning at 10am. Before that, the ba’, made by Sigurd Gibson, will be displayed in the Red Cross Shop in Victoria Street.

At the traditional time of 1pm, but on Boxing Day,  Erlend Tait, of Ranganoust, Orphir, will throw up the Men’s ba’. This ba’, made by George Drever, will be displayed in the window of Orkney Television Enterprise prior to the game.

The honour of throwing up the New Year’s Day Boys’ ba’ goes to Ernie Skea, of Aikerskaill, Deerness. The ba’ was also made by George Drever and will be displayed in John, Scott and Miller in Bridge Street. Eddie Barnett, of Faraclett, Kirkwall, will throw up the New Year Men’s ba’. It will be on show at Lucano in Victoria Street and was made by Edgar Gibson.

All four ba’s should be on display in mid-December.
