Banner presented to Royal Regiment
A special ceremony, at which a banner was handed over from Orkney Islands Council to the Highlanders 4th Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Scotland, took place in Kirkwall this morning.
Visiting from regiment were Lt Col Leigh Drummond MBE and Pipe Major CSgt Peter McGregor, who attended the event at the council offices, at which the banner was handed over by OIC Vice Convener Jim Foubister.
The banner, which features the OIC crest on one side and the Royal Regiment’s crest on the other, was presented in recognition of the battalion members that have been recruited from Orkney.
The event was also attended by leaders from the local branch of the Royal British Legion.
After thanking OIC, Lt Col Drummond said that the regiment’s links area’s such as Orkney are “incredibly important” and he said they provide “the sense of moral belonging that drives a modern battalion”.
The banner was then attached to the pipes of CSgt McGregor, who played Flett Fae Flotta and Wee Highland Laddie on the bagpipes.
