Cash for community transport
Local groups wanting to set up a community transport initiative are being encouraged to apply for funding from the OIC’s community transport scheme.
The scheme is designed to assist community transport groups to develop and deliver transport services where there is no public transport or viable private transport alternative available.
Applications are open to voluntary and charity organisations and companies. Groups are expected to raise part of the costs themselves, for example through generating fares and other forms of revenue, collecting donations or from other funding bodies. Applications for funding through the scheme must, of course, prove that they would be an appropriate use of public money.
Further information and application forms are available at www.orkney.gov.uk, by emailing transport@orkney.gov.uk, or phoning 873535.
The closing date for applications is 5pm on November 15.
