It’s the time of year again where Orkney plays host to a contingent of our Scandinavian neighbours and joins in the Norwegian Constitution Day celebrations, held each year on May 17.

Today’s events began with a service at the Norwegian war graves in St Olaf’s Cemetery at 10am. Then, at midday, the annual “Tog”  – parade – made its way through Bridge Street and Albert Street to St Magnus Cathedral.

This year’s guest of honour is the retired British consul, Rolf Hestness.

On the Kirk Green, there was entertainment from local schoolchildren and the Pipe Band, before a concert in the cathedral, led by Glenys Hughes and featuring a traditional set from Douglas Montgomery and friends.

In the evening, the Orkney Norway Friendship Association will host a buffet and dance in the Standing Stones Hotel, Stenness.
