Charges for Kirkwall car park

A section of the Great Western Road (South) car park in Kirkwall is to become pay and display from Monday.

The changes affect the 47 spaces adjacent to Pickaquoy Road. As a result, the car park has been re-lined, a boundary fence erected and new signage put in place.

Charges are 1 hour 40p 2 hours 60p 3 hours 80p and a £1 charge for parking all day.

The council says that the changes follow consultation with Kirkwall town centre retailers and the Kirkwall Business Improvement District, who wished to see a review of car parking charges in order to encourage short stay car parking in Kirkwall’s car parks, to incentivise town centre shopping.
